Seaton Carew I Aerodrome

There were actually two Seaton Carew locations, a landplane station and a seaplane one. The two locations were less than a mile apart and were know as Seaton Carew I & Seaton Carew II resp. Seaton Carew I site occupied 72 acres of land measuring 600 x 800 yards and was in operation between May 1916 and June 1919. It was the home of both a RFC/RAF Home Defence squadron (36(HD)Sqn) as well as a Marine Operations Station. Two HD pattern sheds measuring 139 x 69 feet coupled together, plus two Bessonneau hangars were in-place on the HD site, with seven Bessonneau hangers occuping the Marine Operations Site
