Brunton

Brunton opened in summer 1942 as a satellite field for Milfield for the training of single seat fighter pilots. Approval for the requisition of land had been given during March 1941. Three tarmac runways were laid - 03/21 1,600 x 50 yards, 15/33 1,100 x 50 yards and 08/26 also 1,100 x 50 yards. A perimeter track linked the runways off which twenty-five hard standing dispersals were situated. Four Blister hangars were erected near to the domestic sites which were grouped at the southern part of the airfield. A decoy field for Brunton was also established at Elford (NU 190 308) to the north of the main airfield.
Brunton was closed after the Second World War, but saw some use as a general aviation airfield and provided a home for the Borders Parachute Centre until this was closed in 2004.
