A very wet RAF Acklington opened its gates to the public in 1960 to commemorate the Battle of Britain. Due to the bad weather the number of participants was well down on previous years.

During this period the base was within Fighter Command, 66Sqn being the resident unit with their Hunter F.6 aircraft. Air & Sea rescue was provided by 228Sqn who had a detachment here with Whirlwind helicopters.

The letter in the first column denotes whether the aircraft participated in the (F)lying display, was (S)tatic, on the (D)ump or was guarding the (G)ate
